Saturday, 7 March 2015 Following the Training for Trainer(TFT) that BDSG and Bina Swadaya have conducted in October 2014, the DRR Education at school today took place in SDN Mekarsari 3 Depok, West Java. The school was selected because the location is close to Bina Swadaya office and the flood usually happens during the rainy season. The school session involved 9 volunteers of BDSG and 15 facilitators from Bina Swadaya. The session started at 08.30 am, around 70 of 5th grade students gathered on the school field for introduction and ice breaking. In this session the students played some games and were divided into 8 groups named after animals; Chicken, Tiger, Cow, Wolf, Duck, Goat, Cat,and Horse. As part of youth empowerment in disaster risk reduction, BDSG conducted a Basic Training in September 27, 2014 in its secretariat. This was aimed for reaching another milestone towards the sustainability of BDSG. Participants of the training consist of those who have joined BDSG activities a few times and those who were completely new to BDSG. It was the first training conducted formally by BDSG. Usually BDSG volunteers were informally trained along with their participation in activities. Those who were more active would automatically became more skilled in designing concept of activities, in communicating, or in delivering materials in the school sessions. But it was about time to involve more skilled and committed volunteers to implement more missions of BDSG, quantity-wise and quality-wise. The sharing session was conducted on the 9 th of November in the Auditorium of the Geology Museum in Bandung and was open to the public in general. Before the start of the sharing session, a video about the Kars Rajamandala area by the Board of Geology was shown to the audience. Fossils and pre-historical records have been found in Gua Pawon, one of the caves in the area. However, the area is being threatened by mining activities around it. The video shows just how important the area is and that we should mitigate its threats to preserve it. The sharing session started with an introduction of BDSG and what we do, which is to Learn, Share, and Volunteer. We explained our activities such as sharing sessions, school sessions, DRR-Young Exchange Program, and Campaigns, as well as our upcoming activities.
