BDSG-Bina Swadaya DRR Education at School

Saturday, 7 March 2015 Following the Training for Trainer(TFT) that BDSG and Bina Swadaya have conducted in October 2014, the DRR Education at school today took place in SDN Mekarsari 3 Depok, West Java. The school was selected because the location is close to Bina Swadaya office and the flood usually happens during the rainy season.  The school session involved 9 volunteers of BDSG and 15 facilitators from Bina Swadaya. The session started at 08.30 am, around 70 of 5th grade students gathered on the school field for introduction and ice breaking. In this session the students played some games and were divided into 8 groups named after animals; Chicken, Tiger, Cow, Wolf, Duck, Goat, Cat,and Horse. Honjo Life Safety Learning Center- We should have it here!

First step we came in, we thought  of how has been this learning center with all its facilities built by the government to enrich the knowledge of the citizen in facing disaster, hence every visitor who has came here know how to survive when disaster happen. We believe someday Indonesia also has this center in every province, every city, and every district. Ganbattekudasai! Every session in this learning center is NEW for us.We watched movie about Tohoku earthquake and its secondary disasters which is fire, how is the disaster looked from the sky, how firemen did the job, the rescue, and also the victims to survive. We also practiced how to fight a fire with fire extinguisher together with WASEND member, very interesting. November Sharing Session: Tangkuban Parahu, Kawan Atau Lawan?

The sharing session was conducted on the 9 th of November in the Auditorium of the Geology Museum in Bandung and was open to the public in general. Before the start of the sharing session, a video about the Kars Rajamandala area by the Board of Geology was shown to the audience. Fossils and pre-historical records have been found in Gua Pawon, one of the caves in the area. However, the area is being threatened by mining activities around it. The video shows just how important the area is and that we should mitigate its threats to preserve it. The sharing session started with an introduction of BDSG and what we do, which is to Learn, Share, and Volunteer. We explained our activities such as sharing sessions, school sessions, DRR-Young Exchange Program, and Campaigns, as well as our upcoming activities.
